An armadillo was hit by a vehicle near the Kampsville Water Treatment plant late Friday night, or early Saturday morning, and was discovered on Saturday. Armadillos are not native to the area, but sightings of these armored opossums have become more common in Southern Illinois in recent years, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources website.
