Liese Dodd
A Litchfield man is facing charges after police say he is responsible for the murder and decaptitation of his pregnant ex-girlfriend as well as the killing of her unborn child.
Liese Dodd, 22, formerly of Jerseyville, was found partially dismembered in a residence of the 3400 block of Bolivar Street in Alton, last week. Dodd was discovered on the afternoon of June 9, after the Alton Police Department received a call, around 12:59 p.m., about a possible homicide. Police were able to quickly determine that Dodd’s death was a homicide, given the details at the scene.
Deundrea S. Holloway, 22, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child, dismembering a human body, offenses relating to motor vehicles, and concealment of a homicidal death.
Alton Police Chief Marcos Pulido took to the Alton Police Department Facebook page in the form of an 8 minute, 44 second video, on Tuesday, where he shared the shocking details of Dodd’s murder.
“What was observed, what was learned, what was found, is absolutely terrible,” said Pulido. “Every murder is absolutely terrible— we’ll never take that away, but what happened to 22 year old Liese Dodd, who had just moved to this place in Alton, is beyond reprehensible, it’s abominable.”
Pulido continued, “She was savagely, savagely killed, she was decapitated— decapitated by a freaking savage monster. Her unborn child was also killed as a result of this.”
Pulido referred to Holloway as a monster throughout the update, emphasizing the unimaginably brutal nature of the crime.
Dodd was discovered deceased by her mother who went to the residence to check on her daughter after being unable to reach her. Upon her arrival, she found Dodd’s body and immediately called the Alton Police.
“No parent should ever have to bury their child, but her mother hadn’t heard from her in a little bit and wanted to go check on her to make sure she was okay— and found her in a way that you can’t even imagine,” Pulido said.
Holloway and Dodd had an on-off relationship for about two years, according to a release, which also stated that Dodd was eight months along in her pregnancy and due in mid-July.
“This daughter, this mother-to-be and her family were in the planning stages of a baby shower that was supposed to be at the end of June, but now the family is planning a funeral because of what a monster did.”
Pulido finished his statements off by commending the efforts of the other law enforcement agencies who assisted with the investigation.
“We had great help that was offered from the Wood River Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, but as our investigation led us toward the Litchfield area, without hesitation, the Litchfield Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Gillespie Police Department helped us with this,” Pulido said.
Holloway was taken into custody by the Gillespie Police Department. His bond was set at $2 million and he is currently being held at the Alton Police Department.
Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine released the following statement:
“We offer our sympathy to the family of Liese Dodd for the profound loss they are suffering. We believe the evidence will show that the defendant’s gruesome actions here killed both a young woman and the child she carried in her womb. In the eyes of the law, both these killings are equal. And he will now face justice for both. I want to thank the Alton Police Department and the many assisting agencies for their swift actions in taking this dangerous offender off the street.”
