Three former Carrollton graduates have helped the Buckley Dutchmasters get off to an 11-2 start in the Eastern Illinois Baseball League.
Buckley swept Royal taking three games out of three, 8-4, 6-1 and 8-6 in a Sunday triple-header to take a three-game lead with six games to go.
Former Hawk, Josh Krumwiede, who is in his 12th year as a Dutchmaster; Nathan Walker, fourth year; and rookie Grant Pohlman have all made contributions to the team’s success this year.
Krumwiede is hitting over 500 at .538 (21-39) with 12 RBI while playing second base. Walker, an outfielder, is 15-38 for an average of .395 with 10 RBI’s.
Pohlman has caught and played third base this season going 8-32 for an average of .250 with a team leading five extra base hits and 10 RBI’s. He has also pitched two scoreless innings earning a save.
The Eastern Illinois League continues on Sunday afternoons through July 31 with a league tournament Aug. 7, 13 and 14.
