Many were in attendance for the annual Batchtown Picnic held at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church last weekend.
The picnics took place on Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31. Saturday night there was turtle soup, bingo, a country store, music, quilt stand, and games. There were also numerous food and beverage stands.
The Sunday dinner consisted of fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, dumplings, dressing, slaw, and a choice of homemade pie. There were carryouts and an evening lunch.
This coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6 and 7, is the Meppen Picnic. The weekend will start on Saturday with the traditional turtle soup at 5 p.m. and the beef sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, and desserts follow. The event is set to host a fish stand, funnel cakes, ice cream cones, and other treats as well as games such as bingo, I-did-it, and ring toss.
On Sunday, the dinner menu will consist of fried chicken, beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, dumplings, slaw, and tomatoes, green beans, and pie. There will also be beautiful quilts being raffled off.
Additionally, there will be a beer stand, soda stand, and music on both nights of the picnic.
The Brussels Picnic is scheduled to take place the following weekend, Aug. 13 and 14. That weekend is one to plan for with that great weekend of food, and a grand raffle drawing. We’ll give you a detailed review next week.
