The 2022 general primary election was held on Tuesday, June 28, this year. Results from this election were announced in early July. However, that list was not complete.
Candidates wishing to run as an independent in the fall election had until July 11 to petition for their spot on the ballot. Additionally, both parties had until July 25 to slate a candidate for any office or position that was not previously voted on in the June primary election.
Each county board district has three seats available for voters to fill this fall. Each party had the opportunity to nominate up to three people for the ability to fill those seats. Following the June primary, District #3 was the only district that had filled all available nominee spots for the fall election.
The new independent candidates running in Jersey county are as follows:
Nick Manns has joined the race for Jersey County Sheriff against incumbent Sheriff Mike Ringhausen (R) as an independent candidate.
Jonny Goetten will be running against Katie Steckel-Abbey (R) in the race to replace longtime county treasurer, Gib Ashlock, as an independent candidate.
The following candidates were slated by the local political parties where a candidate was not initially nominated in the primary election:
Sandy Hefner (D) and Alan Womack (R) will also make an appearance on the ballot this fall to potentially fill the three available seats on the County Board for District #2.
More information about the June 28 primary election can be found at the Jersey County Clerk’s office, which can be reached at 618-498-5571, or found online at www.jerseycountyclerk-il.gov/elections.
The General Election date will take place the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. This year, it falls on Nov. 8.
