What better way to end the summer and get ready to go back to school than to chill with the police at the Carrollton Pool – on their dime!
The Carrollton Police Department is sponsoring the Chillin’ with the Police end of summer bash at the Carrollton Pool from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 12. and kids from throughout Greene County are welcome – not just from Carrollton.
“In the past, we have done the Kid’s Night Out, but Chief Kyle Robison has been doing his ‘Chillin’ with the Police’ event in Roodhouse for quite a few years now and the kids love it,” Carrollton Police Chief Mike McCartney said. “We decided we wanted to do something like that down here since we have the Carrollton Pool, so we have asked the Dairy Bar to provide ice cream and we are paying for an ice cream cone for every kid under the age of 16.”
The Carrollton Pool will be open for free swimming from 6 to 8 p.m. but for those who get tired of swimming, there will be plenty of other events outside of the pool area.
“We will have lots of police vehicles for the kids to check out and we will have some boards for the kids to play bags on,” Chief McCartney said. “We will also have some nets up for the kids who would like to play badminton.”
There will be officers from other police departments there as well.
“Just as other departments support Roodhouse’s event, they are coming to support ours,” Chief McCartney said. “Chief Robison said he is going to be here and we are expecting officers here from White Hall, Greenfield and the County as well.”
The event serves a two-fold purpose.
“It is our (Police Department’s) way to give back to the community and it’s a good way for us to have some interaction with the kids,” Chief McCartney said. “Plus, school will start soon so it is kind of an end of the season bash for the kids before they go back to school.”
