Jerseyville author, Donna Kennedy, has spent the better part of a year creating a wild winding story of adventure, love, and life. The book titled, The Truth, released earlier this summer, is a semi-autobiographical romance and mystery book about Kennedy’s life with another character put in her place.
Kennedy paid the Jerseyville Public Library (JPL) a visit on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m. to sign copies of her novel and discuss the book with potential readers.
Kennedy explained the story’s origins, “I grew up kinda rough, there was abuse and other things. I tucked my truth into a fictional story,” she said.
Kennedy said that she didn’t write The Truth for herself, but, rather, she hopes her book can be beneficial to readers who may be in similar circumstances.
“I didn’t wanna write a memoir, I wanted to be able to tell my story to help other people experiencing the same things I did, but in a fictional way.” Kennedy said. “I always wanted to write, and then it came to me, I could put my story in fiction, it just rolled off my fingers.”
Kennedy’s book is also entirely self-published.
“I chose to do that on purpose because I found out publishing agents would get to control the cover of the book, the characters, and title,” she explained. “This is so personal to me because it’s my story to tell.”
A book promotion and review service called Chick Lit Café gave Kennedy’s book an excellence award for her story. The Truth is Kennedy’s first book in her three-book-series, titled, So Help Me God . The upcoming books will be called The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth.
Kennedy’s novel currently has a 4-star rating on Amazon and is available on several sites such as Kindle, Barnes & Noble, and Good Reads. It is also available at the JPL for those interested.
