Merle Carlton of Newton will be turning 90 years old this month and will be celebrating the occasion with an Open House at the Pike Senior Center.
Merle was born on Aug. 30, 1932. He worked as a teacher and coach in Otterville, Fieldon, Pleasant Hill, and Kinderhook. He also worked as a Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy, a Barry City Police Officer, and a teacher at Nebo Church of Christ. Additionally, he worked at the Lincoln County, Mo. District Attorney’s Office.
Merle wed Margaret (now deceased) and the two raised five children, Jay Carlton, John Carlton, Jim Carlton, Valerie Troyan, Deanne Harris. The couple also had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Merle will celebrate his birthday with an Open House on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Pike Senior Center, located at 220 W. Adams St., Pittsfield, IL.
