The orchards are full of apples, and a few peach varieties are sought after, but the picking is scarce. Tomatoes and corn on the cob, and varieties of squash and other garden products remind us that fall is right around the corner.
The children are back in school and many of them are going to college. Olivia Pelle from Batchtown started back to SIU Edwardsville this past week. She is starting her third year and is studying to become a dentist. Olivia is a waitress at the Fill Inn Station, and we wish her well.
Marilyn Klockenkemper recently had surgery on her hand and is recovering. Hope all is well Marilyn.
Bernie and Robin Hillen topped off a night of grocery shopping Friday night with supper out at Nick’s Restaurant.
Robin Hillen and her mother, Mary Ann Bailey, enjoyed caring for the grandchildren on Monday. Those under their care were Marlowe, Leland, Reign, and Hayes.
St. Vincent DePaul will have a rummage sale on Friday, Sept. 16, from 8 a.m. to noon and Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon. Buy by the bag: $3 children’s clothing and $5 adult clothing. Pieces bought individually: $1 each. Proceeds benefit clothing pantry. Open to the public! You do not have to be registered with the pantry in order to participate. Help us clear our racks to get ready for fall.
From Sept. 8-11 the Calhoun County Fair will host a summer fair, complete with carnival rides, livestock, musical entertainment, truck pulls, demolition derby, and good food! Advanced tickets are available at all the banks. Books are available at the banks and the University of Illinois office.
Stacie and Larry Brost visited Nick Siemer Tuesday and later went out to eat at the Fill Inn Station.
David and Janet Droege took a trip to Mackinaw City in Michigan to visit relatives for a family reunion. All the siblings enjoyed getting together and visiting.
St. Barbara’s Altar Society will have a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 7 pm.
Congratulations to Reese Kuehnel and Julie Brodbeck who are getting married on Sept. 3 at Mount Hope Barn in Michael, Ill. Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Reese Kuehnel.
