Officers with the Pittsfield Police Department arrested Matthew J. Robinson, 25, Pittsfield, for one count of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft. The arrest Sept.13 followed a lengthy investigation.
The felony theft is a result of an investigation into suspicious purchases made from a checking account of the Pittsfield Saukee Youth Football Club. Robinson was the head football coach for the team and allegedly used the club’s checking account to make unauthorized purchases. The investigation revealed over $3,000 in personal purchases and checks written to family members. Mr. Robinson allegedly endorsed and cashed the checks and kept the cash.
The misdemeanor theft is a result of an investigation that alleges that Robinson was employed by a local business that donated services to a family in rural Pittsfield that suffered a house fire. Robinson allegedly defrauded the family by collecting money from them for the service when the services were donated by the local business.
Robinson was booked into the Pike County Jail. Mr. Robinson has since posted $1,500 bond and was released. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
