Tyson Brown and Zack Evans set new West Central passing and receiving records as the Cougars beat Pleasant Hill 46-6 in football Sept. 16 at Pleasant Hill.
Brown completed 13 of 19 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns. The 239 passing yards broke the previous record of 220 set by Jordan Boehs against Carrollton in 2011. The four touchdowns tied the record held by Brady Slagle against I.S.D. in 2007 and tied by Boehs against Pleasant Hill in 2011.
Evans caught six passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. The 167 yards broke the record of 120 yards set by Ryan Moore against Pleasant Hill in 2018.
Mason Berry put West Central on the scoreboard when he scored on a 1-yard with 9:29 remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown was set by a 34-yard pass play from Brown to Berry.
Evans scored his first touchdown later in the quarter when he caught a 37-yard pass from Brown. He also caught a pass for the conversion to give the Cougars a 14-0 lead.
West Central scored four times in the second quarter and led 40-0 at halftime.
Chance Little caught a five-yard scoring pass from Brown with 11:20 remaining in the second quarter. Conner Turner ran for the conversion to extend the lead to 22-0.
Owen Barber scored just 1 minute later when he returned a fumble 23 yards for a touchdown.
Brown scored on a 9-yard run with 5:43 remaining in the first half and threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Berry with 1:23 remaining.
Brown and Evans hooked up on a 47-yard pass play on the first possession of the third quarter that gave West Central a 46-0 lead.
Pleasant Hill scored on a 35-yard pass with 2:42 remaining in the game.
The Wolves (0-4) had just 75 yards of offense and six first downs in the game. They rushed for 33 yards on 35 attempts and had 42 yards passing.
West Central (2-2) finished with 338 yards of offense and 13 first downs. The Cougars rushed for 99 yards on 19 attempts.
Turner rushed for 42 yards on just four attempts. Berry rushed for 30 yards on seven attempts, and Brown rushed for 22 yards on four attempts. Hayden Jefferson rushed for seven yards on two attempts.
Berry caught three passes for 56 yards. Turner caught two passes for seven yards. Little caught one pass for five yards, and Jefferson caught one pass for four yards.
The Cougars also penalized seven times for 65 yards.
KJ Spencer led the defense with 13 tackles, including two for losses, and recovered a fumble. Brown had nine tackles, including one for a loss, and recovered a fumble.
Nolan Melanson had nine tackles, including one for loss. Little also had nine tackles. Barber had seven tackles, including one for a loss, and recovered a fumble. Jake Bangert had six tackles, including one for a loss.
West Central will host Greenfield-Northwestern (4-0) Friday at 7 p.m. This will be the Cougars’ annual Homecoming game.
