A beautiful fall weekend here in the county with many people in the area visiting the local markets for apples, pumpkins, Indian corn, mums, etc. Also Sunday was the Fall Festival in Batchtown with many in attendance for the parade, games, entertainment and especially the great food. Hard to believe this coming Saturday is already Oct. 1!
Olivia Brodbeck, daughter of Chad and Amanda Brodbeck, finished her Girl Scout Gold Award Project by dedicating the basketball court to the town of Batchtown at the Fall Festival on Sunday afternoon. She thanked the many people that helped her make this possible. Congratulations Olivia on a job well done!
Visitors on Sunday afternoon of Francis Toppmeyer were Ed and Lisa Heffington, John, Julie and Caleb Carnes and Mark, Mary, Maggie and Max Toppmeyer. Thanks to John who helped here with the mowing and trim work as well. That evening they all enjoyed dinner together with food they had brought and prepared. Sounds like they all had a great meal and visit.
Jill Rose, Claire and Lila and Sandy Kulp and Anna, all of Brussels, enjoyed a trip to Greenfield, over the weekend to visit the Greene Fields Farm. The girls enjoyed picking their own pumpkins, a wagon ride, playing in the tank of shelled corn, and many other outdoor activities available to them.
On Sept. 23 and 24, Ashleigh Clendenny’s bridal party and friends traveled to Kansas City, Mo. to celebrate her Bachelorette Party. Those in attendance were Emily Weed, maid of honor; and Emma Witte, Morgan Rusten, Emily Fortschneider, Natalie Weiner, and Alexa Pikesley as bridesmaids. Also, friends, Baylee Kiel, Hannah Adams, Meghan Beiser, and Torria Slagle.
The girls stayed in an airbnb (bed and breakfast) in the Westport area. On Friday night, they enjoyed a live band at the Tin Roof. Saturday morning, they enjoyed a homemade breakfast and special coffees and that afternoon they enjoyed playing pickleball and lunch at the Chicken-n-Pickle Restaurant. That evening, the group had a wonderful dinner at Mickey’s Hideaway, followed by an evening at the Power Light District. They enjoyed Howl at the Moon, a piano bar, followed by lots of dancing at the PBR Bar. Ashleigh will become the bride of Hank Fortschneider on Oct. 22, 2022. Sounds like the girls had a most enjoyable time. Absent from the group was another bridesmaid, Mary Friedel, and my next item explains why she was absent.
Congratulations to Brett and Mary Friedel of Golden Eagle, parents of their second son born on Sept. 15. He has been given the name James Neil. They have an older son, Wayne, who is helping mom to care for his new baby brother.
My apologies to Keith Baecht and son Matthew of Jerseyville whose names I inadvertently omitted from my news last week. They also were in the group that enjoyed dinner and a visit together at The Fill Inn in Batchtown last Saturday.

A Prayer for Sept. 29 which is St. Michael and All Angels Day
Dear Lord, You send Your angels to watch over us and protect us. We live our lives mostly unaware of the great violence Satan seeks to do to those who call You Lord and Savior. We take time this day to thank and praise You for Your ongoing care of all who bear the name Christian, even in ways we cannot know. In our Savior’s name we pray. Amen
