The next time someone says there isn’t anything good to eat in White Hall – tell them they don’t know bull – the Bull Truck that is.
The Bull Truck is White Hall’s newest eating establishment – well, sort of. The Bull Truck is a food truck operated in the evenings and on weekends by its owner, John Bull. Its location is in Bull’s driveway, located at 246 South Main.
The idea for the Bull Truck came from Bull’s wife, Courtney.
“My wife is the one who put the idea in my head that I could do something like this after Subway closed,” Bull said. “She saw the post about it closing and made the comment one night that she thought I could do something with it.”
Bull got to thinking about it.
“I’m like, well, I wouldn’t want to do the same thing – I would want to do something different,” he said. “Why would people want to come to my place if it was just like the place that had closed. So, I got to thinking about stuff that you just can’t get around this area, like a good Philly cheese steak sub.”
His wife wasn’t finished putting ideas into his head.
“Then, Courtney mentioned how she would like to have an Olive Garden down here,” he said. “I told her you are not going to get an Olive Garden down here because there are not enough people and its too high priced. Which is why I have added the pasta bowls to my menu.”
Bull said he offers a variety of pasta bowls including alfredo, scampi, spaghetti, marinara, chili mac, chili cheese mac and marcella.
“I’m just trying to kind of bring a taste of Olive Garden into our little town with these,” he said. “Along with our Philly cheese steak sub, these are some of our most popular items.”
Another popular item are his hamburgers and cheeseburgers, probably because they are thick enough to sink your teeth into.
“My burgers are half-pound burgers, so if you order a double cheeseburger, you are going to get a pound of meat on your burger,” he said. “Like I tell people, if I’m going to go out for a fast food burger, I’m going to go to Hardees because they have the nice, juicy burgers and that is what I wanted to bring here so instead of messing with the quarter and third pound burgers like they do, I just went with the half pound.”
Favorite sides are the onion rings, French fries and mozzarella sticks.
“I have a device on the truck that will cut curly fries out of a real potato so that is my French fries,” he said. “Then, I’ve got the same mozzarella sticks as Barefoot had before they closed. Of course, everyone likes onion rings.”
Bull works full time at Bunn, so the food truck is currently only open from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday it is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Bull said it is his dream to one day make it his full-time job.
“I really want to grow this in the community and be able to offer more food options for people to choose from in the very near future,” he said. “I would really like to get into a brick and mortar building. If I could get out of Bunn, I would run it from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. as long as I had the business for it.”
Growing the menu is the one thing he would like to do most of all.
“I can do wings that would rival Buffalo Wild Wings and I’d like to get that on the menu if I can,” he said. “But, right now, I’m just kind of limited with space on the truck. I’d also like to do breakfast. Like I could do a Philly cheese breakfast bowl and just replace the bread with some eggs and I think that would go over pretty well.”
Being a food truck, Bull was asked if he has plans to take it to any local events.
“I will as soon as I’m able to,” he said. “I don’t presently have the fresh water and waste water tanks so I have to have direct hookups at the moment, but as soon as I have those, I will be able to take it anywhere. Also, the crew I have is still kind of green and I’m trying to get them trained to be able to handle it better.”
Bull has a Facebook Page (The Bull Truck) with a menu and prices plus photos of the ample portions he serves. If you are in a hurry, call in your order at 217-320-3612
