The North Greene Junior High Lady Warriors played host to the St. Francis Lady Knights last week and split the games with them. The seventh-grade girls came away with an 18-16 victory while the eighth grade girls lost a heartbreaker 31-34.
It looked like the eighth grade Lady Knights were going to have an easy night ahead of them as they built up a 15-0 lead after the first quarter. But the Lady Warriors kept battling back and pulled to within one, 29-30 with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter.
Twenty seconds later, with 1:10 left in the game, they would take the lead for the first time at 31-30. Unfortunately, those would be the last points the Lady Warriors would score in the game while the Lady Knights would come up with a basket and a free throw to make the final score 31-34.
High scorer for the Lady Warriors was Layna Bushnell with 17 points and 2 rebounds; Brooklyn Sharrow followed with 6 points and 4 rebounds; Ayawa Dohon-Siatey, 4 points, 5 rebounds; Addy Snyder, 2 points; Mya Forrester, 2 points and Savette Schofield, 5 rebounds.
In the seventh-grade game, high scorer was Brooklyn Sharrow with 7 points and 1 rebound; Mya Forrester, 6 points; Sydney Schutz, 3 points and Chloe Harney 2 points and 5 rebounds.
