The winter weather has arrived. Most of us are dressing in coats, hats, and gloves with low temperatures in the 20s.
Veterans Day has passed and Thanksgiving is a week away, on Thursday, Nov. 24, so get ready with your turkey and all the trimmings, and plan on celebrating our traditional Thanksgiving Day with family and friends.
Due to the holiday, the St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank and Clothing Store will be open only on Wednesday, Nov. 23 with extended hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.
The Batchtown Woman’s Club will meet Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m. for their regular meeting. The members will discuss and plan the distribution of fruit baskets, given at Christmas by the Woman’s Club members, to those who have experienced a loss or been ill this year. At the December meeting, they will make and deliver them.
The Batchtown Christmas lights, and decorations are being put up now. Brenda Sievers is getting the project done throughout the town, park, and streets of Batchtown. They are always a beautiful sight. Thanks Brenda and your crew of helpers.
Anne Tepen and Nathan Wiederholt were married Saturday, Nov. 12 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo, Ill. with Father Carl Scherrer officiating, followed by a reception at the Falls at Columbia, Ill. Anne is the daughter of Vernon and Joan Tepen. He was formerly from Batchtown. Many relatives from the area attended. Kenny, Bette, and Nick Eilerman, Mike and Tracie Eilerman and family, Brian and Kay Eilerman and family, Greg and Lauren Eilerman and family, Lee and Jean Tepen, Mark and Amanda Tepen, Jason and Cheryl Tepen, Bill and Luke Tepen, Ben and Dianne Tepen and family, Jon and Melanie Tepen and family, Tom and Kay Tepen, Alan Tepen, Jim and Melissa Clark, and Tim and Sharon Ennis. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Wiederholt.
Jeremy and Angie Russell and daughters, Zoe and Sadie, visited Grandma Linda Russell on Sunday and helped her winterize the windows with plastic coverings.
Roy and Helen Sievers and Paul and Anna Sievers, Aubrey, and Jack recently went to California for three days, they had a very enjoyable trip
Helen Sievers, Tepen Hollow Designs, will be at the Rastello Room in Hardin Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Friday, Nov. 18, at the K.C, Hall for Ladies Night Out, with bingo and shopping. Doors open at 6 p.m. This event is sponsored by St. Norbert’s School. The Tepen Hollow Designs have been at various locations lately, the Fire Dept. in Pleasant Hill, and the Edwardsville Craft Show. Look for them and their designs.
Gina Rose representing Thirty-one Gifts will also be at the K.C. Hall for the Ladies Night Out. Gina was recently at the D J Bar and Grill in Jerseyville with the Thirty-one totes, purses, and bags. She enjoyed the day and saw a lot of people from Calhoun.
Aiden Eilerman was 6 years old on Nov. 16. Greg and Lauren Eilerman and their children, Addison, Asher, and Abbott helped him celebrate. Happy birthday Aiden.
Bryan and Lisa Lumpkin, parents of Connor, will celebrate his 4th birthday on Nov. 18, Thanksgiving Day, with sister, Madison; and brother, Carter. Happy birthday Connor. Have a fun year!

The Pat and Vera Droege family will have Thanksgiving Dinner at the St. Joseph’s Church Hall on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24. This includes all their relatives. Many of them who have attended this gathering of the family before and are again invited this year. Everyone should arrive at noon with the food they have prepared. The meal begins at 1 p.m.
This is the best day the world has ever seen.
