Well the change in weather has appeared as predicted. Broke a record last Wednesday and Thursday with a high of 82 degrees and by Saturday morning a low of 27 and a high of 34! Really a sudden change for our bodies, especially those suffering with arthritis.
Fred and Debbie Kuhn and son, Chris, enjoyed helping the Kuhns’ grandson, Barrett Kuhn, celebrate his 5th Birthday over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, Matt and Kate Kuhn (and family) of Festus, Mo. met the above mentioned relation at the Incredible Pizza Restaurant in St. Louis to celebrate Barrett’s special day. The theme of his party was Dinosaurs and his cake was also appropriately decorated with them. Many more “happy ones” Barrett.
Kara Hagen, Emma and Allesa, of Meppen along with Barb Hagen of Brussels and Jan Bick and daughter Kaela of O’Fallon, Mo. attended the Musical “Frozen” at the Fox Theater last Sunday. They gave it a two thumbs up!
On Saturday Brian Hartman took his mother Paulette Hartman and sister Ann Kirn, both of Golden Eagle, to the Fox Theater to see the Musical “Frozen.” Everyone that attended it so far say it was a really great musical production and the costumes were gorgeous. Of course just seeing the beautiful Fox Theater alone is always a treat.
Visitors of Roy and Barb Hagen last Monday were Dan Hagen and his friend Shirley Cloninger of Hardin. As always they had a great visit.
Ashley (Klunk) Timmerwilke of St. Louis was honored on Saturday, Nov. 12, with a baby shower held at the Elsah Township Building in Elsah. The theme of the party was Harry Potter and the decorations and also the refreshments served followed that theme. Ashley is the daughter of Elaine (Klunk) Mans of Golden Eagle and Billy Klunk of Jerseyville. Mother-to-be received many lovely and useful gifts for baby-to-be from family and friends in attendance.
Hard to believe a week from Thursday is Thanksgiving. The Heffington-Droege families will once again celebrate the day this year, on Nov. 24 at St. Joseph’s Hall in Meppen. For family and close friends attending please bring a covered dish and dessert to share. The doors open at noon to set everything up and dinner will be served promptly at 1 p.m., perhaps a bit sooner if everything is ready. If you have any questions please call Vera Droege.
Saturday afternoon Melinda Snider accompanied me to the Stadium Theater in Jerseyville where we saw the movie “Ticket to Paradise.” The movie, starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts was really great. Afterwards we enjoyed a quick sandwich and still made it home by dark. Do not like this time change, it sure makes for a long evening.
Just heard last evening of the death of Jon Brackett of Hardin passing away on Saturday night. Deepest sympathy to his wife, Kathy; sons, Jared, Justin and Joe; and daughter, Jill Brackett. Keep them all in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Blanche Wreath, age 86 of Wood River, who passed away on Nov. 7. Survivors include her three sons, John (Rosie) Wreath of Brussels, William Wreath, David (Deana) Wreath all of Wood River and a daughter Katherine (Chester) Dilback of Cottage Hills and their families. Graveside services were held on Nov.10 at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Moro.
Members of the Brussels Woman’s Club will meet this Thursday, Nov. 17, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthew Hall. Jean Barton is the hostess for the day and I have the program. Club member Dana Kirkpatrick will be attending with the new club books she has designed and printed for 2023.
At 1 p.m. on Sunday the Brussels Girl Scouts and their leaders, with the help of the National Honor Society from Brussels High School, prepared and served a wonderful Thanksgiving meal to 32 Veterans and their guests in attendance at St. Matthew’s Hall. A program by the Scouts followed and each Veteran in attendance received a handmade gift made by the Scouts. Leaders of the Brussels Girl Scouts are Debbie Kamp, Diane Tepen, Nancy Robert and Amanda Brodbeck.

Prayer of thanksgiving for the Harvest Season that has just ended.
Lord and Bountiful Creator, giver of grains and seeds, fruits and berries and all that grows from the earth, we thank You and we bless You for this year’s harvest. We lift up our hearts in gratitude to the sun which together with rain, worked in harmony to produce this bountiful harvest. We are also grateful to those who labored together so that this harvest might come to fullness. Blessed are You, Lord our God for all You do for us. Amen
