David A. Hoover | 78 | Pittsfield

David A. Hoover, age 78, of rural Pittsfield, IL passed away on Nov. 25, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on Feb. 23, 1944 in the Detroit Township to James and Helen Phillips Hoover. He married Jean Batley on Aug. 4, 1963 at her parent’s home which later became their home and she survives.
David was born and raised in the Detroit/Milton area and attended East Pike High School graduating in 1962. He helped on the farm throughout his youth but after high school, he became a full-time livestock and grain farmer. He first farmed in the Detroit Township and later in the Hardin Township. His goal in life was to build up the farm to be able to leave his legacy to his family. David was a lifelong member of the Pike County Farm Bureau, spending 22 years on the board of directors. He was also a past Hardin Township Supervisor, a Hardin Township Trustee, a lifelong member of the Milton Christian Church, and on the board of the Smith Cemetery where he was the sexton for many years.
In earlier years, David enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and playing cards with friends. Over the years, he was an avid boater, water skier, and even trick skied. David and Jeannie always enjoyed taking the grandkids to their Ozark cabin for ‘Lake Camp’, where they boated, played games and just loved spending time with them. He and Jeannie also loved to travel, traveling all over the United States and many other continents. His last vacation was just this past summer when they went to Europe and travelled through six different countries. David was a laid back, easy going, but hard working family man who will always be remembered for the smile on his face.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Jeannie Hoover, of rural Milton; two sons, Rich (Dee) Hoover of Pearl, IL and Brian (Julie) Hoover of Pittsfield, IL; five grandchildren, Kayla (Trevor) Miller, Jarrett (Layne Gregory) Hoover, Reed Hoover, Nate Hoover, and Kate Hoover; one great granddaughter, Gemma Miller; one brother, Phil L. (Becky) Hoover of Pittsfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Hoover; two brothers, Johnnie Bill and Jimmy Hoover; and two sisters, Sue Vetter and Ann Hodgson.
