The Calhoun Warriors girls varsity basketball team played an away non-tournament game on Monday against the Roxana Shells. The Warriors started off strong in the first quarter, out scoring the Shells 12 to 8. However, heading into the second quarter, the Warriors knew they couldn’t let up on offense. The Warriors held off the Shells despite their best attempts to take a commanding lead, and etched out 14 points in the second quarter to the Shells 11. Heading into half time, the score stood at 26-19.
With a seven point lead heading into the second half, the Warriors kept the ball rolling and managed to tack on another 12 points in the quarter. The Shells scraped together 6 points; but yet again failed to match or overtake the Warriors in total points scored. As the fourth and final quarter started, the Warriors’s lucky numbers stayed in their favor with 12 points scored to the Shells 5. The final score at the buzzer was 52-30, giving the Warriors their first win of the season.
The Warriors are 1-1 as of writing, with their next game being at home against the Pleasant Hill Wolves at 6 p.m on Thursday, Dec. 1.
