The North Greene Spartan boys are on a roll capturing their fourth win in a row with a 54-45 in over Edinburg at home on Dec. 20.
It is the longest string of wins the Spartans have put together in quite some time and the fans are loving it.
A good portion of the Spartans points came from the free throw line. North Greene shot 78 percent from the charity stripe, sinking 18 of 23 attempts, the majority of which came in the third and fourth quarters. The Spartans were perfect in the third quarter going 8 for 8 from the free throw line and making 10 out of 12 attempts in the fourth quarter. The other two attempts came in the second quarter.
Both teams kept things close in the first half of the game with the Spartans taking a 14-13 lead into the locker room.
The Spartans came out refreshed in the third outscoring Edinburgh 17 to 10 to take an 8 point lead.
The fourth quarter saw both teams turn on the after burners with Edinburg sinking 22 points to North Greene’s 21. However, it was a case of too little to late and the Spartans claimed their fourth victory in as many games.
Leading the scoring for the Spartans was Luke Farris with 14 points, 5 of which came off of free throws. Reese Scott wasn’t far behind with 12 points, 5 of which were free throws as well. Two more players were in double digits with Jacob Hinsey dumping in 11 points and Garrett Hazelwonder adding 10. Adam Moffit chipped in 6 and Colby Eilers rounded out the scoring with 1.
The Spartans are playing in the Waverly Holiday Tournament this week. Their next home game is Jan. 4 against Griggsville-Perry followed by the Winchester Tournament.
