The Calhoun Lady Warriors had a big win over the Beardstown Lady Tigers Saturday, Jan. 21, at the first game of the 48th Annual Lady Hawk Invitational.
The Warriors started the game out strong taking a 19-point lead by the first quarter, 21-2.
Warriors defense held Beardstown to only four points in the second quarter, taking an impressive 41-point lead into the locker room at halftime, 47-6.
Beardstown fought back, to give the audience something to watch in the second half of the game, putting up 23 points and cutting into the Warriors’ lead. Despite the effort by the Lady Tigers, they were unable to overcome the Warriors.
Kate Zipprich was leading scorer in Saturday’s match, putting up 20 points for the Warriors, followed by Jaelyn Hill with 13 points and Audrey Gilman with 12 points.
Calhoun was ranked third in the tournament, while Beardstown was ranked in 11th place. Calhoun improved its record to 18-5 on the season with the win. They were scheduled to play Gateway-Legacy Tuesday night in quarterfinal action, but results were not available at press time.
The Lady Hawk Invitational Championship game will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.
