Pleasant Plains made a three-point shot at the buzzer and beat West Central 49-47 in boys’ basketball Jan. 17 at Winchester.
Chance Little gave the Cougars a 47-46 when he scored with 5 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Pleasant Plains was able to push the ball up court and got the shot off before time expired.
The Cougars trailed 37-29 after three quarters but rallied to take the lead.
Zack Evans scored twice as West Central cut the deficit to 40-36 with 3:51 remaining in the game. Pleasant Plains grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to extend the lead back to six points.
Pleasant Plains led 46-41 with 1 minute remaining, but Little scored six straight points to give West Central the lead.
West Central made just one of six free throw attempts in the fourth quarter and was 3-for-9 in the game.
Pleasant Plains was just 9-for-20 from the free throw line in the game and 5-for-17 in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals missed four straight in the final 40 seconds. Pleasant Plains made 10 of 15 three-point field goal attempts.
Evans made three-point basket to give West Central a 7-6 lead in the first quarter. Pleasant Plains made three consecutive three-point shots to take a 15-7 lead, and they led 15-9 after one quarter.
Pleasant Plains led by as much as 13 points, 25-12, in the second quarter. Little converted a three-point play and Tyson Brown made a three-point basket to cut the margin to 25-18. West Central trailed 27-20 at halftime.
Pleasant Plains led 33-22 in the third quarter. Brown made a three-point basket, and Evans scored to get West Central with 33-27. Jaydon Howard scored, and the Cougars got within 34-29 with 2:46 remaining in the quarter. Pleasant Plains made a three-point basket and led by eight points after three quarters.
Evans scored 15 points and had five rebounds and three assists for the Cougars (15-7). Little scored 15 points and had nine rebounds. Brown scored 12 points.
Ryker Ford scored three points. Howard scored two points and had five rebounds.
