Harold F. ‘Boaby’ Smith | 83 | White Hall

Harold F. “Boaby” Smith, age 83 of White Hall passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 31, 1939 in White Hall, the son of Harold R. and Ella F. McMillen Smith. He married Betty Eileen Rabe Oct. 15, 1956 in Bowling Green, MO and she preceded him in death Dec. 7, 2021.
He is survived by a two daughters, Becky (Ron) Gilmore, Patty (Duane) Westnedge both of White Hall; a son, Chris (Theresa) Smith of White Hall; eight grandchildren, Derrick (Amber) Gilmore, Joshua (Nicole) Gilmore, Brett (Melissa) Westnedge, Clancy (Cory) Maher, Luke Westnedge, Carrissa Smith, Kaitlyn Smith and Tori Smith; nine great grandchildren, Madilyn (Derek) Dawdy, Taylor, Landon, Stella, Shelby Gilmore, Oaklynn Parson, Daniel and  Declan Maher and Hazel Westnedge; two brothers, Ronald and William (Mary)  Smith both of White Hall; four sisters, Evelyn (Keith) Smith of Scottville, Margaret Alexander, Linda (Kenny) Sturgeon, Lora Dilks all of White Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; four brothers, John, Donald, Thomas, and Clarence Smith.
Harold worked at Laclede Steel Mill in Alton for 33 years. He also owned and operated Smith Builders for more than 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a devoted Christian and Deacon at the First Baptist Church of White Hall. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also served as an Alderman for the City of White Hall.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023 at White Hall First Baptist Church. Burial followed in White Hall Cemetery. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to White Hall First Baptist Church. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in charge of arrangements.
