Zack Evans scored 25 points to lead West Central to a 53-43 win over Triopia Jan. 20 at Concord.
The Cougars led just 47-43 with 3 minutes remaining in the game. Evans made a free throw with 2:22 remaining. After a Triopia player committed charging foul, Evans scored on a layup to give the Cougars a 50-43 lead with 1:26 remaining.
Mason Berry made two free throws, and Jaydon Howard made one in the final 47 seconds for the final outcome.
The game was tied at 2 before Evans scored seven straight points. Evans converted a three-point play after a steal by Berry, and West Central led 9-2.
Chance Little scored seven straight points, and he converted a three-point play to extend the lead to 16-5. The Cougars led 16-8 after one quarter.
Evans made a three-point basket, and Berry scored to give the Cougars a 23-13 lead in the second quarter. They led 25-19 at halftime.
After Triopia cut the margin to three points, Ryker Ford, Evans, and Tyson Brown made consecutive three-point baskets as West Central went in front 34-22. Triopia got within 37-32 before Evans and Berry scored to close out the quarter.
Little scored 11 points for the Cougars (16-7, 5-1 in the WIVC). Berry scored six points, and Howard scored five. Brown and Ford each scored three points.
Landyn Woods scored 24 points to lead West Central to a 69-51 win in the junior varsity game.
Derek Price scored 14 points, and Cameron Sievers scored 12. Nick Hamilton scored seven points, and Caden Meyer scored six. Charlie Smith scored three points, and Carson Clevenger scored one.
