Hello! I am excited to be writing my first Griggsville News column! My goal is to keep those in our community informed of current events and happenings, and maybe introduce a bit of town or school history along the way. Cleve Curry celebrated turning 76 years young Friday. Justin Curry and his family joined Cleve and Susanne at their home to celebrate. They had a nice dinner and played music with the grandkids. Happy Birthday, Cleve!
All children birth to 5, living in the GP School District are eligible to receive free books monthly through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. To sign up, parents can pick up a form at the Griggsville or Perry school offices. If you have questions, contact Barb Webel at the Griggsville school at 217-833-2352.
GP elementary students celebrated the 100th day of school Jan. 26 with snacks, dress up and counting activities! What a fun milestone to reach!
The seventh grade Eagle boys’ basketball team clinched the Class A Regional Championship title last Wednesday night with a win over Southeastern!
The eighth grade Eagle boys’ basketball team beat Southeastern in the first round of Regionals Saturday morning!
The seventh grade Eagle volleyball team took third place in the Morgan County Conference Tournament Saturday, while the eighth grade team took fifth place!
Tornado basketball beat Triopia Saturday night to win the Triopia Tournament! Congratulations to Wyatt Lipcaman and Michael Myers on their selection to the All-Tournament Team!
Mrs. Cindy Conkright and the GPHS Fine Arts Club are sponsoring an “Evening of Talent” March 11 Participating students will have an opportunity to showcase their artistic abilities on stage.
Mark your calendars for Feb. 10 as GPHS will celebrate Homecoming 2023! The schedule of events is as follows: 12:30 p.m. – Doors open at The Nic; 12:45 p.m. – Pep Assembly in The Nic. This event is open to the public; 1:45 p.m. – School dismissal; 5 p.m. – After Prom Committee hosting a meal of pork chop sandwiches/chips for a freewill donation; 5:15 p.m. – Homecoming Court announced/Coronation of 2023 King and Queen.
6 p.m. – Varsity Tornado basketball game vs Payson w/two fifteen minute halves of JV game to follow. 8-11 p.m. – Homecoming dance for GPHS students and registered guests only.
