February is Heart Health month
Did you know February is “Heart Month?” The Mayo Clinic gives the following tips for boosting your heart health: Don’t smoke or use tobacco; Get moving: Aim for at least 30 to 60 minutes of activity daily; Eat a heart-healthy diet; Maintain a healthy weight; Get good quality sleep; Manage stress; Get regular health screenings. Working on taxes? The North Pike District Library in Griggsville has Federal and State tax forms that can be printed for free. Check out their Facebook page at North Pike District Library for hours or call 833-2633.
Sawyer Kessinger’s daddy, Dakota Kessinger, and her big brother, Hayden, hosted a birthday party in honor of Sawyer’s 3rd birthday. Several of Sawyer’s family members helped her celebrate. Happy Birthday, Sawyer!
Thelma Butler enjoyed visiting several people who helped her celebrate her 90th birthday at an open house party at the Skinner House. Happy Birthday, Thelma!

GPHS Homecoming is Feb. 10! Festivities include a pep assembly open to the public in the Nic (12:45 p.m.), After Prom Committee pork chop sandwich meal (5 p.m.), Coronation (5:15 p.m.), Tornado basketball vs Payson Seymour (Varsity game at 6 p.m. then JV) followed by the Homecoming dance for registered students only.
If you know a GP junior student, encourage them to apply to the Pike CEO program! Applications are now being accepted for next years’ class. Application deadline is Feb 28th. Juniors can go to www.pikeceo.com/applynow.
GPHS Science Club is selling Earth Day t-shirts for $15! Funds raised will be used to provide Earth Day activities for GP’s elementary students. Call the Griggsville school office (833-2352) to order by Feb 14.
All children birth to five years of age living in the GP School District are eligible to receive FREE BOOKS monthly through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. To sign up, parents can pick up a form at the Griggsville or Perry school offices. If you have questions, contact Barb Webel at the Griggsville school at 833-2352.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Clara Pritchett who passed away earlier this month. She and her late husband, Charlie, were both teachers in the Griggsville School District. (Obituary: www.cookfuneralchapel.com)
History Note: Friday, Feb. 14, 1919, Griggsville’s school burned, forcing students to attend school in homes and town churches. Who knew that one hundred years later, in March of 2019, a global pandemic would shut schools down, and once again force students to have to learn from home?
