Calhoun’s eighth grade Warriors won their sectional game in Waverly, this week, against the Springfield Blessed Sacrament Bruins on Monday evening, Feb. 6.
The Warriors led the Bruins by two points after the first half, with a score of 9-7. In the second half, Calhoun kept that same energy alive, finishing off the third quarter ahead, 15-11. The fourth quarter yielded a similar result and the Warriors defeated Blessed Sacrament by three points, 25-22.
The Warriors claimed the sectional title and will move on to play in the State Championship, Elite 8, this Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in Kankakee.
Calhoun Unit 40 extended thanks to Aerie’s Resort & Winery for providing the team with a meal before the game and transportation. “Thank you for always supporting the Red and Black,” stated the district in a post on Facebook.
The team was even celebrated with an escort from the Carrollton Police Department when passing through Carrollton on their way home from their sectional win.
And, of course, the Warriors were given a champion’s welcome home when they arrived back to Hardin and were escorted through town by the Hardin Fire Department.
