The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners meeting was called to order on Monday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 p.m. by Chairman Phil Robeen at the Marvin Richter Court House, where the board accepted a proposal from Vern Hoage to set up the county with a website.
Calhoun County’s website will feature information pertaining to the county as well as a calendar of events which will provide updated information about upcoming events happening in Calhoun.
Keisha Morris and Sandi Odelehr were present to discuss the details of a 5-year-lease to put service on an already existing tower on Odelehr’s property. The county currently has an easement. This item was tabled until it can be looked into further by the board.
Tony Franke, Representative of the Calhoun Ambulance Service, touched base on an issue involving West Central Dispatch when dispatching ALS units. Franke stated that the ambulances have to get to the closest facility.
“This can be life or death,” he said.
Commissioner Terry Woefel said he will be attending the 911 meeting and will see what can be done.
Building Inspector Christina Behrens reported that after many calls about reimbursements from 2019, she was able to talk to someone that said that the reimbursements “were being put in the system, so hopefully the county will start to see some reimbursements.”
Much discussion revolved around the new state wind and solar ordinances. Calhoun County currently does not have an ordinance, but with new state laws being passed on Jan. 27, the board said the county needs to act on this.
“We have to act on this in 120 days. It can not be put off,” said Commissioner Deanne Fester.
Chris Behrens has reached out to surrounding counties to see about their ordinances, but has yet to hear back. Jane Brangenberg of the Calhoun Farm Bureau said they will be meeting to see how they can protect the land owners. Calhoun County State’s Attorney Lucas Fanning said he will work with Behrens and Brangenberg to try to get ahead of the situation.
In other business, the board accepted a resolution of support for the Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau. The commissioners agreed they are excited to be a part of this wonderful organization for the continued boost of tourism in the county.
Farm Bureau President Ben Van Dyne and Brangenberg presented the board with a plaque thanking them for their resolution of support to the Bureau.
Additionally, the commissioners chose 16 Grand Jury members and 12 supplemental members.
The next County Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 5:30 p.m.
