Point Central made a three-point basket as time expired and beat West Central 63-61 in boys’ basketball Feb. 14 at Bluffs.The Cougars trailed 54-47 with 5 minutes remaining in the game.Chance Little scored, and Mason Berry had a steal and converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to 54-52 with 4:12 remaining in the game.Camp Point scored to extend the lead back to four points. Zack Evans scored, and Berry scored to tie the game with 2:21 remaining. Camp Point made two free throws to take a 58-56 lead.Tyson Brown made a three-point to give West Central a 59-58 lead with 1:44 remaining. Camp Point made two free throw with 12 seconds remaining and take a 60-59 lead.Evans made a short jumper with 7 second remaining and give West Central a 61-60 lead. After a timeout, Camp Point was able to push the ball up the court and get the winning three-point shot before the buzzer.Little scored nine points in the first quarter as West Central jumped out to a 13-4 lead. Zack Evans made a three-point basket, and the Cougars led 18-10 after one quarter.’Berry made a three-point basket to start the second quarter to give West Central a 21-10 lead. Camp Point went on a 12-2 run and to get within 23-22. Evans made a three-point play, and Berry made a free throw to increase the lead to 27-22. Camp Point scored eight of the last 10 points of the quarter and led 30-29 at halftime.The game was tied at 31 and 37 in the third quarter before Camp Point was able to take a 41-37 lead. They would lead by four, 48-44, going into the fourth quarter.Camp Point Central, who was ranked No. 7 in Class 1A by the Associated Press, improved to 24-4.Evans scored 26 points and had five rebounds for the Cougars (22-8). Little scored 17 points and had six rebounds. Berry scored 11 points and had four assists.Brown scored five points, and Derek Price scored two.Camp Point Central won the junior varsity 50-49 in overtime.Landyn Woods scored 15 points, and Nick Hamilton scored 13 to lead West Central. Carson Clevenger scored six points, and Caden Meyer scored five. Price scored four points. Zac Howard, Cameron Sievers and Charlie Smith each scored two points.
