Thomas ‘Tom’ Edward Melton | 82 | Independence, Mo.
Thomas “Tom” Edward Melton, age 82, of Independence, Mo. passed away on Feb. 14, 2023, at St Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, MO.He was born on June 6, 1940 in New Salem, Illinois, the son of James and Geneva (Scott) Melton. He was raised in New Salem, Illinois, and joined the United States Army and served his country as an engineer. He has been an over the road long haul truck driver for his whole career. He relocated to Kansas City, MO. in the 1960’s and settled in Independence in 1970.
He met Naji Ann Kostan in 1993 and they married on Sept. 17, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He retired in 2000. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the American Legion Post 0021 in Independence, where he was a member. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge 299 AF & AM Kansas City, MO. He was a dog lover and had many pets in his lifetime. The most recent pets he adored are puppies Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton.
Tom was survived by his wife, Naji Ann Melton, of Independence, MO.; son, Bob (wife, Angie) Melton of Houma, LA.; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two sisters, Barb Yokem and Carole Laingor, both of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tommy Melton; and sister, Linda Sue Melton.
Tom will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
