The Jersey Calhoun Jaycees held their second annual Hog Raffle Drawing on Sunday, March 12, at Straight Home in Hardin from 1 to 3 p.m. At the event, two winners were drawn, who will each receive half of a hog. The organization began selling tickets at $5 each, in January, to benefit Two Rivers Crime Stoppers (TRCS).
Tickets were sold up until the drawing, which took place at 2:30 p.m., and a total of $1,500 was raised for TRCS. The Jaycees presented the check to TRCS at their monthly meeting at Overtime in Greenfield on Monday evening.
The winners of the raffle were Danny Miller of Fieldon and Jay Kohlmiller of Edwardsville. Volunteer, Matt Baalman, drew the winners.
The event also held a 50/50 drawing which raised around $300 which was split between the Jaycees and the winner, Julie Pohlman. Pohlman donated $100 of her winnings back to the organization.
There was also a Backyard BBQ Sauce Contest at the raffle event, in which there were three entries. The winner was Derek Ahlmeyer who is the Jaycees 2023 Region V Director. He received a BBQ-themed basket, filled with meats, seasoning, and grill accessories.
The Jersey Calhoun Jaycees served up free smoked-pork sandwiches and baked beans throughout the duration of the event.
