The Jersey County Against Drugs Coalition and Jersey Community Hospital held a Community Resource Fair last Thursday at the Susnig Center.
The Jersey County Against Drugs Coalition and Jersey Community Hospital held a Community Resource Fair last Thursday providing the public a chance to gather information on drug prevention, treatment, and recovery programs available in the area.
A variety of organizations gathered at the Susnig Center including Amare, Al-Anon, and JCH with resources for addiction recovery, as well as Jersey Public Library, Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation, and Jersey CUSD with prevention resources and programs for children.
Rita Robertson, Substance Use Prevention Services Grant Coordinator and Prevention Educator, said the Resource Fair is a great opportunity for vendors to share information with the public as well as other vendors. Robertson added that events like these help to break the stigma of substance abuse in the community.
Erin Hileman and Lauren Savoie with JCH said the issue is very prevalent in the area and agreed reducing the stigma is important. They also provided information on the recovery programs at JCH that include medicated assisted recovery, peer recovery, counseling, and psychiatric support. One thing Hileman said they’re doing through the program is providing free Narcan throughout the area, noting the reality of substance use issues in the area.
Family support resources were also available including meetings for those impacted by someone else’s substance use. Al-Anon Family Groups had information on weekly meetings at JCH, as well as Amare with information on their family recovery program.
Resources for senior citizens and children were also available from the Jersey County Health Department, Head Start, and the Jerseyville Public Library. Some of the resources included the “Senior Boxes” food program, weekly clubs and activities at the library, and Jersey CUSD 100 Early Childhood Programs.
Organizations present Thursday with different resources included Got Faith, Tigerlili Resources, Jersey County Health Department, Jerseyville Parks and Recreation, Koen Counseling and Wellness Center, LifechurchX, Resurrection Souther Baptist Mission, First Fruits Mission Bible Training Center, Amare, Al-Anon, OSF Healthcare and the Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation.
