The Jersey County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident on Tuesday afternoon on US 67 at Delhi Road. Also on the scene was Jersey Community Hospital, Brighton Betsey Ann Fire Department, and the Jerseyville Police Department. One person was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, in addition to two people who were airlifted.
According to the Jersey County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), a vehicle was crossing Highway 67, heading eastbound across the four lanes of traffic, and was struck by another vehicle that was traveling northbound on 67.
Two helicopters and three ambulances were called to the scene. A 63-year-old woman and a 51-year-old woman were flown to St. Louis area hospitals and a 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
Brighton Betsey Ann Fire Department and Jersey Community Hospital – Ambulance were first on the scene with Jersey County Sheriff’s Deputies. The Jerseyville Police Department also assisted.
The crash is still under investigation by the JCSO.
IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) was at the intersection on Wednesday morning replacing a stop sign that was knocked down in Tuesday’s crash.
Jersey County Sheriff Nick Manns asks that drivers throughout the county remain mindful and exercise caution, as there have been multiple accidents over the past few weeks.
“This marks the fourth time that helicopters have been summoned to a major crash in Jersey County in the last two weeks,” said Manns. “Jersey County Sheriff’s Office prays for the recovery of the victims and wants to remind everyone to pay close attention and be cautious when traveling our roadways.”
