Shoe collection by G-P sophomores for a good cause
The first official day of spring was March 20th. This day is also known as the spring equinox. According to Reader’s Digest, the word “equinox” comes from the Latin and stands for “equal” and “night.” As the sun crosses the equator, the hours of daylight and nighttime are very nearly equal.
The Bluffs United Methodist Church will host Joe Arview tonight at 7 p.m. for an evening of Gospel music. This program is part of the 2023 Bright Star Parish Lenten events.
If you are in Perry, check out the updated siding on the east side of the school building. It’s a great improvement! This is one of several building updates being done at GP.
Tornado baseball and softball seasons begin this week. If you see a game going on at the Griggsville or Perry diamonds, stop by and cheer on the Tornado players and coaches!
GP’s sophomore class is collecting slightly used or new shoes. The class will be paid by the pound and the shoes will be sent to other countries to help young businessmen make money to help their families. Collection dates are March 13 to March 31. Shoes can be dropped off at the high school, or a drive-by drop off date has been set for April 1 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the south doors of the high school. Help “shoe” the love while helping the sophomores!
The Griggsville United Methodist Women are taking orders for their frozen unbaked individual ham loaves to be delivered before Easter. Call or text Linda Patton (217-370-8020); Alice Cripe (217-653-5631) or Jo-an McIntire (217-653-5798).
The Griggsville United Methodist Church will be serving a soup supper March 24 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Soups, sandwiches, desserts and beverages will be served for a freewill donation. Proceeds will go toward the restoration of the 100+ year-old stained-glass window in the sanctuary.
The Mt. Sterling YMCA is hosting a Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt March 25. Sign up at mtsterlingymca.net/register or call 217-773-2230 with questions. This event is open to Griggsville and Perry families.
The Griggsville Estates will host an Easter Egg hunt April 1, at 2 p.m. at The Estates. This event is open to any child 0-10 years of age living within the Griggsville community. (Rain date will be April 8)
The Village of Perry will host an Easter Egg hunt April 1, at 1 p.m. in Perry Park. This event is limited to children living in the Perry/Fishhook area.
Illini Community Hospital and the Griggsville Christian Church have partnered with the Central Illinois Food
Bank and will host a food distribution for the first 200 families April 1 at 9 a.m. at the Griggsville Fairgrounds.
