The Truck Driver Training (TDT) Program at John Wood Community College (JWCC) is hosting an informational open house, with registration also available for upcoming classes:
• Monday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. at JWCC Southeast Education Center, 39637 260th Ave., Pittsfield.
Representatives will share how the program has revised its training in response to the new federal regulations regarding obtaining a CDL. Admission requirements, funding options, and career opportunities in the trucking industry will be discussed. Attendees will also learn about a 16-credit hour, financial-aid-eligible, Logistics/Truck Driver Training certificate.
According to JWCC Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Tracy Hagman, expanding the TDT program plays a vital role in helping the local economy and improving the career prospects of individuals living in the area.
“The trucking industry is a crucial part of the economy; truck driving programs can contribute to the growth and stability of this industry. By producing skilled drivers, JWCC helps meet the demand for transportation services and support the movement of goods and products across the country,” Hagman wrote in a statement. “JWCC’s Truck Driving Program is critically important because we provide students with job opportunities, skills training, career advancement and contribute to the economic growth of the trucking industry. Truck driving is an in-demand profession, and many employers are looking for qualified drivers. By offering a truck driving program, JWCC can help students prepare for this career path and increase their chances of finding a job.”
The program uses industry-standard equipment as teaching tools.
“Truck driving requires specialized skills, such as operating large vehicles, navigating different types of roads and weather conditions, and maintaining safety on the road,” Hagman wrote in her statement. “A truck driving program can provide students with the necessary skills training to become competent and safe drivers.”
Class A CDL drivers are in unprecedented demand. Students in the program will be actively recruited by numerous trucking companies representing local and national firms. Some employers may fund tuition costs.
The open house is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Truck Driver Training program, 217-641-4971, 217-641-4914, or visit www.jwcc.edu/truck.
