The Pig on a Wing restaurant, located at 807 State Highway 16 in Jerseyville will be closing its doors on Friday, March 31.
The Pig on a Wing restaurant, located at 807 State Highway 16 in Jerseyville will be closing its doors this week, and owner Steve Walker says he plans to “shift focus to his food trucks.”
The restaurant operations will cease this Friday, March 31, following their lunch service. Walker said that while the restaurant will be closing, the Pig on a Wing food truck will still be around, as will a new food truck that will be up and running around May 1.
“As of now, the focus is going to be on the two food trucks,” said Walker. “The new truck will be called Rollin’ Dogs which will serve some hotdogs, sausages, brats, and some sandwiches. It’s going to be different from Pig on a Wing.”
The restaurant closure was prompted by trouble finding enough help to operate both the restaurant and the food trucks, according to Walker. The announcement was made on the restaurant’s Facebook page last Thursday, March 23.
“To all our loyal customers… we regret to inform you that we will be closing Pig on a Wing restaurant after lunch service Friday, March 31,” the post reads. “We understand this news will be disappointing to many, but after many months of deliberation we decided to put our efforts into The Pig on a Wing food truck and the debut of our second food truck this spring. Please come see us and say goodbye to our wonderful staff that you’ve made friends with over the years. Don’t forget to use those gift cards you have laying around while we’re still here.”
Pig on a Wing has been a community staple for the past eight years, which is evident through the numerous comments on the Facebook post.
“Well I’m sorry to hear it, but I’m glad that you will live on in food truck form,” said one commenter.
“I am going to miss the restaurant. I hope you let everyone know where the food trucks are. Best wishes,” read another commenter.
Another commenter asked if gift cards could still be used at the Pig on a Wing food truck, to which the restaurant replied, “yes, you can.”
According to Walker the Pig on a Wing food truck is “booked pretty heavy,” for area events, the Rollin’ Dogs truck will be at Flock & Food Truck Park, located at 210 Ridge St. in Alton, each week throughout the season.
Some of the upcoming places to catch the Pig on a Wing truck are the Alton Expo, Bethalto Homecoming, and Jersey County Fair.
Walker said that while the restaurant is closing, the Pig on a Wing Facebook page will remain active and messages sent there will be checked often.
Finally Walker thanked the Jerseyville community for their support over the years and emphasized that this is not the end of Pig on a Wing.
“We’ve been here since 2015 and it’s been a great time– we’ve made a lot of friends,” said Walker. “We’re going to be gone from this location, but we’ll still be around.”
