Jersey Community High School dropped last Thursday’s home softball game to the Carrollton Hawks with a finishing score of 4-3, in eight innings.
The Hawks kicked off the scoring in the top of the first inning, leading the Lady Panthers 1-0 at the start of the second inning. The Panthers, however, captured the lead with two runs and headed into the third inning with a 2-1 lead.
Carrollton answered back, scoring two runs in the top of the third and Jersey was unable to put up any points. With no runs scored in the fourth, the Hawks held the game, 3-2, into the fifth inning.
The Panthers tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth, evening the score 3-3.
The sixth and seventh innings were silent, sending the game into extra innings. The Hawks managed one run in the top of the eighth and the Panthers were unable to score. The game ended with a 4-3 Hawk win.
The Lady Panthers went on to host the Mascoutah Indians on Friday, May 12, but finished the game with another loss, 5-2. Jersey will host Edwardsville on Thursday, May 18, for a 4:30 p.m. game and then they will travel to Alton on Monday, May 22, for a 4 p.m. game.
