The Winchester Civic Group’s Parks and Recreation Committee is kicking off the summer with their “Spring Fling” beginning on Thursday, June 1 and running through Sunday, June 4.
The fun kicks off on Thursday with the first Farmer’s Market of the season, which will be located on the Winchester Square from 4 to 6 p.m. Immediately following the Farmer’s Market will be the first “Music in the Park of the season from 7 to 9 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the Music in the Park will be moved to Monument Park Pavilion.
After the Music in the Park is over, there will be after music specials at both the Doghouse and the Firehouse. At the Doghouse, enjoy free pool and bucket specials while the Firehouse also has free pool along with jumbo yard games along with pizza and drink specials.
Also on Thursday, Emily’s Dance Studio will be presenting a Tumbling Showcase at 7 p.m. at the grade school gym for an entrance fee of $4.
On Friday, June 2, if you have ever wanted to hone your bowling skills, now is the time. The Winchester Bowl is offering bowling for $3 per game, which also includes shoe rental, from 6 to 9 p.m. At dusk, walk over to the park for the “Movie in the Park” sponsored by the Oddfellows.
Saturday, June 3, is a day chock full of activities. Plum Creek Golf Course will offer golf specials from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. 9-holes of golf plus cart is only $15 or 18-holes plus cart is $25. Must call ahead for tee-time 217-742-9018.
The Civic Group’s Parks and Recreation Committee will begin their registration at 8 a.m. for the 5K For Fun Ride/Walk/Run. The start and finish line will be at 421 N. Main St./Cornerstone Drive. Freewill donation.
The Winchester Public Library will be offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the kids.
The Oddfellows will have a cookout at the 3-way stop from 10 a.m. until gone.
There will be a new exhibition at the Old School Museum of “The Greatest of the Latest” featuring items recently donated from Scott County from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Winchester Assembly of God is sponsoring a “Hope Winchester Free Community Event” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Monument Park. Everything is free, while supplies last. There will be: lunch, family portraits, haircuts, door prize drawings, groceries to go, hygiene kits, kid zone, bounce houses, obstacle course, animal balloons, face and rock painting, craft and science area, grand stand fun, prayer tent, music, hope and more.
Sunday, June 4, the Winchester Public Pool will offer $2 per person swimming from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Season passes will be honored on this day as well.
The exhibition at the Old School Museum will be open as well from 1-4 p.m.
