Last week, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department initiated a criminal investigation regarding a sex offender who was unlawfully residing at a residence in the 800 block of Front Street in Barry. The incident occurred May 17 at 8:20 a.m.
Following an investigation, John R. Campbell, 37, of Quincy, was arrested on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender.
Campbell’s wife, Amanda B. Campbell, 36, also of Quincy, was arrested on a charge of obstructing justice.
Both are lodged in the Pike County Jail.
The investigation began when Chief Deputy Zack Orr received information that John was residing in a camper on the property located in the 800 block of Front Street.
According to Chief Deputy Orr, John had been registering his address as “homeless” with the Quincy Police Department.
When the Pike County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the residence, Amanda Campbell allegedly lied to law enforcement that John was not at the residence. Upon further investigation, John was located hiding in the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
John Campbell appeared in court May 18 and had a bond set at $30,000.
Amanda Campbell appeared in court May 18 and had a bond set at $3,000. Another ruling May 22 allowed her to be released on a recognizance bond.
