Tyson Brown had two hits and scored two runs to lead West Central to a 4-2 win over Triopia May 18 in the semifinals of the West Central Class A baseball regional at Winchester.
Brown was also picked up the win as he pitched five innings. He allowed five hits, walked four batters and struck out seven. Brown went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Triopia’s first two batters of the game reached base on a hit by pitch and walk. Brown retired the next two hitters, but Triopia got consecutive base hits to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars got one run back in their half of the first inning. Brown singled and reached third when Mason Berry singled. Brown stole home as Berry got a in a run down a few pitches later.
Ryker Ford tied the game in the third inning. He reached on a fielder’s choice with one out, stole second, reached third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch. He appeared out at home plate, but the pitched dropped the ball as he attempted to make the tag.
West Central took the lead in the fourth inning. Carson Brown reached on an error as Triopia’s left fielder dropped a fly ball. Brown scored when Landyn Woods reached on an error.
Tyson Brown scored an insurance run in the sixth inning. He led off the inning with a single and scored on a single by Berry.
Dalton Hutton pitched the final two innings to earn the save. He did not allow a hit, walked two batters and struck out six.
Berry went 2-for-3 and drove in one run. Cameron Sievers and Owen Barber each went 2-for-3.
Caden Meyer went 1-for-3. Ford and Carson Brown each scored one run.
