Ilene Shafer | 91 | Winchester

M. Ilene Shafer, age 91, of Winchester, Illinois passed away at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester, Illinois.
She was born Jan. 24, 1932 in Morgan County, Illinois the daughter of Roy Earl and Eva Mae Garfield Hall. Ilene married Joyce Leslie Shafer on Jan. 18, 1953 in Murrayville, Illinois and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2008.
Mrs. Shafer was a homemaker. She attended Murrayville Grade School and graduated from Jacksonville High School before attending nursing school in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Ilene was a member of the First Christian Church of Winchester. She was also a member of the Greene County Home Extension, “The Bunco Club,” was a co-leader of the Hillview 4-H Club “The Groovy Grapevine,” was active in the PTA and taught Sunday school at Hillview Baptist Church for several years. Ilene always enjoyed flower gardening, collecting and restoring antique dolls, crafting and was known as an excellent seamstress, but her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow up.
Survivors include five children, Stephen R. Shafer (Chris) of Griggsville, Illinois, Daniel L. Shafer (Jean Marie) of Winchester, Illinois, Kendall R. Shafer (Joy) of Eldred, Illinois, Kathleen J. Neal (Arthur) of Clarence, Missouri and Julie E. Kennedy (Craig) of Springfield, Illinois;  one brother Robert Hall (Donna) of Jacksonville, Illinois; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Edward Joseph Shafer; two great granddaughters; two sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in the First Christian Church of Winchester with Pastor Alan Bradish officiating.
Burial will follow in the Murrayville Cemetery in Murrayville, Illinois.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Winchester or the Scott County Nursing Center.
