Jersey County is prepared to commemorate Memorial Day this weekend with ceremonies taking place in Jerseyville and Grafton.
Veterans of Foreign Wars 4528 will be hosting this year’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29, at 9 a.m. through Jerseyville.
The parade will begin lining up on West Prairie Street between Wells Norris Tire and Domino’s, and will then precede on State Street until turning on Pearl Street and then Spruce to Oak Grove Cemetery where a Memorial Day ceremony will be held.
In case of rain, the parade will be canceled and the ceremony will be held at the American Legion Post 492.
American Legion Post 648 will be hosting Grafton’s Third Annual Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony at 12 p.m. at the Post’s World War I monument. Lunch will be provided following the ceremony in the Legion hall. In case of rain the ceremony will be held inside the Legion.
The American Legion Post 648 Auxiliary will also be handing out poppies from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28, at the intersection of Illinois Routes 3 and 100.
