It was bright and sunny for the solemn commemoration of Memorial Day in Calhoun County and American Legion Post 636 of Hardin and Post 1083 of Kampsville paid tribute to those soldiers who made the Ultimate Sacrifice.
The Village of Kampsville’s annual Memorial Day ceremony was held at Schumann Memorial Park on Monday morning which included speakers, recognitions, laying of the wreath, 21-Gun Salute, as well as the playing of Taps by Becky Weber.
The Village of Hardin’s ceremony included 636 Vice Commander Craig Johnson sharing stories of those who lost their lives young in the line of duty and also spoke of loved ones left behind. Flowers were placed on the graves of past Legion members. Taps was played by Scotty Browning and members of the Calhoun Entertainment Company, Jerry Sievers, Veronica Tepen, Helen Sievers, Lindsey Watters, Sheri Elmore, and Bonnie Sievers sand the National Anthem.
Both Kampsville’s and Hardin’s ceremonies were well-attended.
