Harley D. Angel, the Carrollton man accused two counts of a aggravated criminal sexual abuse relating to minor victims, was scheduled for a pretrial hearing on Friday, May 26, but that pretrial was postponed on the request of his defense attorney.
Defense Attorney Josh Evans asked for at least a 60-day postponement to go through electronic discovery evidence (i.e. phone) that was presented to the defense at the pre-trial hearing on Friday.
Angel, who just turned 20 on May 22, is charged with one felony count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor for having sexual intercourse with said minor and being greater than five years older than said minor and one misdemeanor count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor with said minor being less than five years younger than Angel.
Angel was arrested by Carrollton Police on Nov. 30, 2022 and originally booked into Greene County Jail on charges of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, Grooming, Indecent Solicitation of a Child and Unlawful Restraint.
However, no charges were filed against Angel until Jan. 27 when a single felony charge of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse was filed.
Then, on March 1, the misdemeanor Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse charge was filed.
An immediate substitution of judge was requested when Angel was first arrested on Jan. 27 and the case was taken on by Chief Judge Christopher Reif. Then, on March 30, a motion was filed for the appointment of a special prosecutor. The case was then assigned to Jennifer Mudge with the State Appellate Prosecutor’s Office.
A pre-trial date has been set for Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. in Green County Court.
