Greenfield’s Class of 2023 turns their tassels at the conclusion of the commencement ceremonies at Greenfield High School on Friday evening, May 26. A symbol of completing your education and receiving a degree has long been shown by the ‘turning of the tassel’ at graduation. Greenfield Lions Club member, John Thien, congratulates Allison Burrow on winning the scholarship from the Lions Club during commencement exercises at Greenfield High School on Friday, May 26. Burrow also was the recipient of a new scholarship formed this year to be given to a student that plans to become an educator. The Greenfield Foundation for Excellence in Education paired with Greenfield CUSD#10 faculty and staff to fund the Future Educator scholarship as the numbers of those who choose to follow a teaching career has dwindled over the last few years, this award is given in the hopes of promoting students to follow that career path. Greenfield High School salutatorian, Bailee Mathews, gives her address to the 2023 graduating class at commencement exercises on Friday, May 26. Mathews filled her speech with many memories of classmates and happenings in their younger years as they began their school careers in kindergarten. The Class of 2023 were freshman when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and Mathews interjected several remarks about how the class had to adjust to life and education during a world crisis. Kylie Kinser was Greenfield’s Class of 2023 president and class valedictorian and Bailee Mathews was salutatorian. They both spoke during the ceremony.
