After a hot weekend in the mid 90s, it was very pleasant out this Monday morning at 59 degrees with a predicted high of 88. We still need rain so badly for the crops, gardens, lawns and flowers. No rain is predicted until the weekend, but prayers continue just in case the weatherman is wrong.
The “Art in the Park” at Heritage Park in Brussels was on Saturday afternoon and was well attended. Over 30 vendors were located under the shade trees and thankfully there was a light breeze. The Village Hall was air conditioned and had on display the beautiful quilts of St. Barbara’s, St. Joseph’s and St. Matthew’s Church available for sale. Also the hall of St. Mary’s had quilts to sell and a few quilters on hand to demonstrate the art of quilting. Artwork of the local schools was on display in the hall as well. Delicious food from sandwiches and chips to strawberry shortcake, ice cream, various drinks and snow cones were also available for sale. Many thanks to the South County Library for hosting this annual event and to Chairman Joan Kiel and everyone on the South County Library Board, for all the work put into this event. Nancy Moennig is the librarian in Brussels. Also thanks to the Calhoun Appleseeds 4-H and Cloverbud, Brussels Girl Scouts and Calhoun Royalty for the opening ceremony.

A Prayer for Rain
Almighty God, we are in desperate need of rain. We realize now, looking up into the clear blue sky, what a marvel even the least drop of rain really is. To think that so much water can fall out of the sky, which now is empty and clear. We place our trust in You and are sure that You know our needs, but You want us to ask anyway, to show You that we are dependent on You. Dear God, look on our dry fields, gardens, etc. and bless them with a wonderful rain. We ask this in Your name, Amen
