The Two Rivers Family Fishing Fair returns to Pere Marquette State Park this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event gives kids a chance to practice their casting, catch a fish and learn more about the river and outdoor actives in the area.
The Two Rivers Family Fishing Fair returns to Pere Marquette State Park this Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The 34th annual free event will give kids an opportunity to get “hooked on fishing” with a wide variety of outdoor activities. Kids will get a chance to practice their casting, learn about noodling, bass fishing, and visit the catch and release bluegill pond in addition to much more.
“We want to get kids to get hooked on fishing, and the Family Fishing Fair helps connect kids and families to fun outdoor activities,” Scott Isringhausen, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Urban Fishing Coordinator said.
Some returning activities will include a 4,000 gallon mobile aquarium stocked with fish found in the Illinois River, Camo the Clown, and Twisted Cat Outdoors.
Isringhausen said its great to be a part of such a long lasting family event, which is hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge and Pere Marquette State Park, but it wouldn’t be possible without all of the sponsors who help to make the fishing fair possible.
“Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are able to continue to offer this free event,” Isringhausen said. “We are very fortunate to have the support of the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery as a Premier Sponsor, along with Farm and Home Supply, The Jersey County Board, Walmart, State Farm Insurance of Jerseyville and Carrollton, and many others.”
This year’s premiere sponsors include Driskill Distributing LLC, 1st MidAmerica Credit Union, Bank of Calhoun County, Bank of Kampsville, Bradley Hargave, Attorney Joshua Evans, Farmers State Bank of Jerseyville, Jerseyville Imo’s, Jersey State Bank, Jerseyville Masonic High Twelve Club, Rotary Club of Jerseyville, Royal Banks of Jerseyville, Womack Heating and Cooling, Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau, Jerseyville Kiwanis, Jersey County Historical Society and many more.
No fishing license or gear is required for guests to participate in any of the events.
