Thomas Ballard, a seventh grader at St. Matthew Catholic School in Champaign, Ill. was this year’s seventh grade winner of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) essay contest.
Ballard’s essay entitled, “Delegate to Second Continental Congress,” was sent to North Central Division where it competed against six other states and won second place.
Ballard is the son of Lance and Aimee Yu of Champaign. His grandparents are Anita and the late Venacio Yu and Larry and the late Bonnie Ballard. His great-grandparents are Tom and Libby Ballard and Mildred and the late Edward Kadell.
