The Pikeland School Board met Thursday, June 1, in a special meeting.
The board approved the bids on lighting for both parking lots at Pittsfield High School and the west lot for Pikeland Community School as well as the lights at the football and softball fields.
“We lost the lights at the football field over the winter and the lights at the softball field early in the spring,” Carol Kilver, superintendent of the district, said. “The lights in the three parking lots were poor.”
The accepted bid was $884,975 for the complete project which may not be completed by the time school starts.
Kilver said the work would begin on the football field first to be ready for the season.
The board also approved paying dues to the IESA for a junior high student to participate as an individual in golf.
“There will be no coach, no transportation, no uniform expense,” Kilver said. “This just allows the student to participate in the state tournament.”
In personnel moves the board: accepted the resignation of Kristi Heafner as softball coach at PHS effected June 2, 2023, accepted the resignation of Joanna Morrissey as director of student services, effect June 2, 2023, accepted the resignation of Lisa Rush as PHS secretary, effective July 31, accepted the resignation of Audrey Thomas as custodian at South Elementary and accepted the resignation of B.J. Yelliott as special education teacher at South Elementary effective May. 30.
The board hired Madison Zumwalt as paraprofessional pending all certifications and employment requirements.
