It’s been a fun summer and it seems that Fall brings us the events that we enjoy. Some of our local towns are having celebrations. The Batchtown Fall Fest is Sunday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and the children’s parade is at noon. The food booths will be on Main Street. Your favorite foods of hamburgers, fries, hot dogs, fish, dumplings, desserts of pie, cake, cookies, popcorn and more. Tea, soda, water. The Batchtown Tavern also participating will serve beer.
From 3 to 4 p.m. a special DisneyLand theme of games and entertainment will be provided. This is all free.
Entertainment and music will be provided by the Cryptkickers Band, playing well-known ballads and songs.
Vendors will be set up in the Town Building ready to serve you. Many named brand items, original crafts, and products will be there for you to see and purchase. The Raffle Stand will have interesting items to support the Fall fest and things that the Committee and Batchtown residents need. This includes help with many projects in Batchtown, such as the upkeep of the Town Building, Village Hall, Town Park, Franke Ball Park, and projects as they are needed.

The St. Vincent DePaul Society had a Fund Raiser which was sponsored by Modern Woodsman Camp 333 at their site in Hardin at 105 French Street on Sept. 23. They sold pulled pork, hot dogs, potato chips, soda, and l lb. bags of sausage. The day was a success.
The Food Pantry Manager, Robin Hillen, thanks everyone for supporting the fundraiser. They matched their goal of $2500 with Modern Woodsman and are continuing to sell the sausage for $4.50 a lb., or 10 lbs. for $40.00. To place an order, call Robin at St. Vincent DePaul. Jim and Theresa Johnes entertained his sister, Melvalene Kirkpatrick from Pasadena, TX for a few days last week. One day they visited with their Aunt Catherine (McGee) Rutledge in Jerseyville; and another day they visited with Kenny Sievers, Sr.
Jim and Theresa Johnes hosted a family dinner Sunday to celebrate the birthdays of Jeanne and Jim Johnes and Melvalene Kirkpatrick. Other family attending were Cathy and Phil Ritchey, Dennis, Jeanne and Abby Johnes, and Melanie, Jon, Carson, and Colin Tepen.
Weekend guests of Eldon and Christine Johnes were Tim and Kathy Easton of Jonesvora, Ark. They enjoyed their visit together.
Steve and Cindy Mezorus and Hayden are vacationing in Rome, Italy for nine days. They are going to the Vatican and many historical sites.
Linda Russell visited Jeremy and Angie Russell and daughters Zoe, and Sadie Sunday afternoon at their home in Godfrey.
Verann Klockenkemper visited with Ted and Elda Hayn last week. Their daughters Tonya and Tammy were there too.
Ronnie and Veronica Womack and grandson Jaxtyn had breakfast at the Fill Inn Station in Batchtown. They have recently moved to the Batchtown area. They recently had a fire at their home and are doing fine now. Welcome to Batchtown.
Jordan and Crystal Flynn and their four children have recently moved to their home south of Hardin near the bluffs. They are enjoying country life with their family, pets, and chickens. They also enjoy eating at the Fill Inn Station.
The weekend of Oct. 7 and 8 Bishop Paprocki will be visiting the parishes and celebrating the masses with the congregation. This will be an opportunity for the bishop to speak with the people in the parish churches, and at sites in our community.
The Cornerstone Church in Batchtown has Bible Class every Wednesday morning starting at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
Sunday, Oct. 1 has been chosen as the Annual Walk for Life
The Walk will be at 10:30 a.m. at the William Harmon Park. The walk is less than an hour. There will be refreshments provided, and T–shirts for sale to support life. Come and support life. Everyone is welcome.
St. Francis of Assisi Duck Race will be held Sunday, Oct. 1. Be sure to get your Ducks now before the big race.

St. Francis of Assisi Fall Dinner and Festival will be held Sunday, Oct.22 at St. Norbert School. The traditional fried chicken and beef dinner with all the trimmings, and pie and drink are something to enjoy every year. The homemade baked items in the Country Store, and homemade crafts for sale may be what you are looking for in your home, or for a gift. Come and enjoy the day.
For your information small animal auctions are held at West Fairground Avenue on Oct. 21, and Nov. 24. Bring your own chair. Burgers and hot dogs on the grill are served.

Lindy and Martha Bick attended the Junior and High School football games at Calhoun High School. They enjoyed watching the games.
Our condolences go out to the family of Virginia Breden of Hardin. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. She is survived by her children, Marian Hagen (Michael). Karen Elmore (late Jerome), Brenda Camerer (Mike), Kevin Breden, Mike Breden, Dennis Breden, Dorothy Bick (Mike) and Mark Breden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Loretta Mager, husband, Bill Breden, son, Billy Breden Jr (Tammy), granddaughter Kimberly Hagen Bryant and siblings Carl Mager and Alberta Thompson. Virginia was a loving wife and mother, a good homemaker and is known for her kind, sweet way. She was a Secular Franciscan and a Franciscan of the Tau fraternity. She will always be remembered and not forgotten. Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 4-7 pm at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 10 am at St. Norbert’s Church in Hardin.
