Pittsfield city police have released the results of their investigation into the accident last week that sent a vehicle through an exterior wall of Green Acres Motel.
The accident, Sept. 19, at the intersection of Washington Street and Franklin Street that sent a vehicle through the exterior wall of the Green Acres was allegedly caused by a driver’s failure to stop.
A preliminary investigation by the PCPD reveals the two-vehicle crash at the intersection reveals there was a vehicle driven west bound on Washington by Garry Simmerman, Baylis.
According to obtained video surveillance footage, Simmerman’s vehicle failed to stop for a red light at the intersection Simmerman’s vehicle struck a southbound vehicle on Franklin Street, driven by Sandra Thomas, Pleasant Hill. As a result of this accident, Thomas’ vehicle accelerated through private property before striking the north wall at Green Acres Motel. The motel sustained serious damage to at least two rooms. There were only minor injuries. The hotel rooms were unoccupied at the time of the crash. Simmerman was cited for failure to obey traffic control device.
